There are a lot of elements of Haruhi that loom large over culture. The characters. The dance. The nonlinear storytelling- well, of the anime, since the light novel doesn't do that. But there is one that is spoken of in dark tones: the Endless Eight. What if you essentially made the same episode of anime eight times, but with like... startling production value? It's a truly bizarre thing. So obviously, we had to talk about it. And even more obviously, if we're gonna talk about something this strange it had to be Nick and Six.

Or at least, that was our original thinking. But this should be something special! So we got Allen from Chatz: A Television Podcast (@chatzpod on Twitter) on as well to really do the thing in style. For some reason, it felt like the end of a long journey.

It’s a difficult line to draw, and I can see how others might have a different perspective… buuuut I’m pretty ok with the conclusion we come to.

Motherlode is great. Good game, good times. I like the Main Match of this week’s episode fairly well, but I don’t think this Miner Game beats Motherlode in my book. Or Spelunky, but that’s a mad unfair comparison. You want a fair comparison? Let’s compare this week’s DM to last week’s. Oh? They’re the same? Angry emoji.

Six and Allen are playing Fantasy Genius this time around, drafting teams of Genius contestants to compete in a battle for fantasy points. As we dive into the first episode of this new season, we quickly learn it’s survival of the fittest: the Food Chain Game has no room for the weak. After that, it’s on to our first season 2 DM, Quattro… and it’s a nailbiter as two evenly matched competitors fight to the last.

It worries me to say this so close to the end of the season, but… I think this episode was actually kind of bad? Hmmm. Hmmm. Well, Allen and I will talk it over on this episode. I just feel like the Main Match, 5:5 Game, was really badly constructed. Just a bad GAME. The Death Match, Same Picture Hunt, was definitely better, but also seemed basic in a way that wasn’t very engaging to me. I really hope I don’t feel this way next week: the show’s been so strong for so long. Stick the landing, you guys, please!

We’re starting off with a special card game based on Blind Man’s Bluff that Six made special for this episode, then we’re going straight into a different type of card game: Open, Pass, this week’s Main Match. Can Jinho and Poong overcome the rest of the players teaming up against them in a game of card-based math? You’d think a StarCraft pro would be good at math… but then, he never could beat BoxeR, so maybe his algebraic ineptitude is why! Let’s find out, together!

Then we move on to our homework: a classic of modern cinema, Street Fighter the Movie. Then it’s time to return for the Death Match… and it’s the best DM we’ve ever had.
